Final Thoughts on Skyward Sword (spoilers)

sailorghirahim:

So I beat the game a few days ago and I let it sink in for a little while before I wrote up my final thoughts on it!

Just so you know where I’m coming from, this is where I stand on the other Zelda games. My first LoZ game was OoT. Majora’s Mask was my favorite for a long time. I hated the Toon graphics when it was first announced, but I was convinced to play the game a few years after it came out by a friend who swore it was good. I liked it then, but I still wanted something more from the visuals. I was super excited for Twilight Princess but massively disappointed by it after I played it (way too easy, no characterization except for Midna, storyline that made no sense, and overall just very pandering to the OoT fanboys). So, I really wanted this game to heal the way my love for LoZ had been wounded by TP.

And I have to say it did, but definitely not in the way I thought it would. SS is so incredibly different in terms of how the overall gameplay is set up. I’m really surprised that this doesn’t bother me as much as it does. Maybe it’s because it’s still a great game overall if you look at it on its own, that I can forgive the deviations. That’s what I didn’t like about TP after all - way too much of the exact same thing from old games - so maybe it makes sense that these changes don’t really bother me.
